Will the REAL Producers Please Stand UP!

Over the past five years we’ve released a ton of promotional CDs and mixtapes, but one thing that always amazes me is how few producers submit RECORDS to be placed on any of the projects. As a matter of fact, every time that we announce a new CD we receive at least 10 emails from producers asking if there’s anyway they can just submit tracks.
This amazes me because, I’m always hearing independent producers talking about how they’re REAL PRODUCERS and not just another beat maker. For some reason, a lot of independent producers think that playing a bunch of different instruments, knowing how to engineer or producing tracks for other genres of music makes them a REAL PRODUCER, but the last time I checked the term producer is short for RECORD PRODUCER. Now let’s just take a second to break down that word.
A) RECORD - a completed musical composition or song
B) PRODUCER - one who produces
This would make a REAL Producer, one that produces SONGS (not beats). But ask any independent producer to let you hear some of their material and they’ll play you a hard drivefull of beats. Where are the records?
It seems that most independent producers have gotten so caught up in the hustle of selling beats that they fail to engage in the business of producing records; records that will bring them publishing checks; records that will bring them clients. Making beats is the easy part. Its simple and fun. That’s why so many producers have huge catalogs of tracks. But the real work is finding songwriters and artists, coordinating studio sessions and bringing a vision into reality.
Too many producers find more importance in being able to work with the latest equipment and programs than being able to work with people, but its the people that produce the records. A real producer realizes that all of those tracks on his hard drive are uncompleted works. A real producer understands that his end goal is a HIT RECORD not a HOT TRACK! A real producer looks for artists to work with and creates tracks that compliment their style while bringing something unique out of them. A real producer understands that every record is a partnership and does what he can to make it a successful one. A real producer reaches out to their DJ, Radio and Media connections to help their records gain legs. A real producer understands there is more value in being credited with a hit record than having a site leasing 18 beats for $4.99. If your only aspiration is to make beats thats fine but will the REAL PRODUCERS please stand up!

This article is spot on! I
This article is spot on! I was just having a similar conversation with a fellow veteran. Technology has made folks lazy beyond description. What was designed to make it easier for real musicians and producers to make recordings, has also resulted in a stream of frauds who want to call themselves music makers. We were remembering coming out of the days before MIDI when you had to create a full band track and had to really play instruments, and before auto-tune, so folks had to really know how to sing. Folks lack the heart and drive to make real music, let alone carry out a full production. Try playing a real piano and then impress us on what you can do with a triton.
The problem with finding
The problem with finding artists and talent is that most talent aren't good enough to be produced on records which are real productions. Alot times as producer I cant work with writers or vocalists when the people can't find the artists most producers work with due to bad marketing bad deals bad promotion and mis handling of money. As indepedent producer the social network websites where artists can list beats, tracks, compositions for lease, free,or sale with no license or license hurts underground artists because those tracks can be stolen re recorded and re released under different labels in different regions of world which is hard keep track of I know from first hand experience so being producer is hard if your independent especially if the mainstream producers and big record labels won't work with unknown talent and I know from first hand it's hard make a name for yourself among the big boys when they can also listen to underground producers use their tracks and protect themselves legally either through the means Of gangs, private contract killers or a good LEGal team. So in essence it's hard to compete with big names because their protected versus being no name Wirh same level talent those have been my experiences and alot times submitting tracks to websites and paying people to listen to my music when I can create a website and make same amount money is senseless. Because I've been turned down on numerous occasions.
This article is long over do
This article is long over do because these new jacks need to learn thier history on making songs.I come from where real producers produced from start to finish and actually went in the studio instead of sitting on a laptop or computer.Being an Artist myself that has worked with producers help me bring the beat to life and paint pictures and help the beat tell stories I laugh at these fake producers.Learn your HISTORY before you call yourself a PRODUCER!!!!

Great Article and very
Great Article and very important to establish the true definition of a record producer. I think in other genres people associate the producer to it's more traditional role, but a lot of times in hip hop, r&b, and dance music, the producer is the person that creates the beat and sends it off and that's it. It's definitely a branding thing, and you have to understand what your brand and services are and develop a business plan around those services. Great read!

fashur definitely agree I
fashur definitely agree I came up on all angles and an overall producer alot of times is going to be ontop of the overall project for the best results where they can drop it where needed, change keys, or resequence to whatever sounds best with that particular record.

That whole article was real
That whole article was real life, I hear the same thing all the time. See I 'm artist from Kentucky and its hard to get a Producer to hear u where I'm from...Even when u reach out daily to find that beat that brings out how unique my style is. Mr. Vicsta, Mark Woods, BG Chophouse Studios and Blasting Zones Records and SoundStage Recordings have yet to be the only producers I've dealt with and most of the time I had to make my own instrumental unless I was at Mr. Vicsta's now dat dude got some beats for ya.
I've realized that my gear is always in drive so I had to resort to getting my own studio today establishes my first recording..I will be my own Producer, until i find one with my same drive

This article is on point. I
This article is on point. I preach this with the artist that I have picked up in the last few months. Also a key thing is to have your work copyrighted. So if it is a full blown across the world hit you don't have mean muggers bitting your lyrics and or music. Mixtapes are good to get the artist out there but the original stuff is where it's at man. So I say get your songs together and pimp the hell out of them. Ours will be there soon.
Check out http://maintainurbrainz/artists.html. There are some great artists here in rual VA baby.
