SXSW (South by SouthWest) is right around the corner (Tues, March 13 - Sun, March 18) and Makin' It Magazine is once again helping independent artists book performances during the largest music festival of its kind.
What you Need to Know
Drawing tens-of-thousands of artists, fans and industry execs to the city of Austin, SXSW offers indies the opportunity to create new fans and life changing connections. While over 2,000 acts are booked each year for official SXSW events, there are thousands more that come to Austin looking for opportunities to perform. This has led to numerous unofficial events popping up to fill the void.
What you need to watch out for
Not all promoters have the artists' best interests in mind. Some falsely claim to be OFFICIAL events and make promises they can't deliver on. Others put together wack showcases (subpar talent, No Promo, etc.) just to get money out of aspiring artists. Worst are scammers who take money from artists for performances on shows that don't exist or that they're not affiliated with. We've seen it all!
What we're doing about it
For the past 5 years, we've used our connections to help independent artists book promotional shows during SXSW. Having relationships with top promoters, we're able to secure performance opportunities on legit events for our clients.
How we do it
We're not here to sell you performance slots. You set your own budget and submit it along with music and contact information. After reviewing we'll provide you with options that fit your music and budget. We specialize in helping artist stretch their budget to secure the most amount of performances possible.
Why book with us?
As an individual artist, you are at the mercy of the promoter, especially if you have a smaller budget and something goes wrong. Because we have established relationships and book multiple performers on stages we are able to get the best prices and preferred performance times. The fact that we have an email blast, website and nationally distributed magazine that reaches over 100K artists, managers, and industry professionals, is also a good incentive for promoters to work with our clients to resolve any issues.
- In 2013 a promoter's show started late and several artists were going to need to be cut. We were able to ensure that all of our artists hit the stage.
- In 2014 a promoter's event was shut down by the Fire Marshall and two artists we booked didn't get to perform. We helped one get a full refund and the other was rescheduled to perform on a bigger stage the promoter had the following day, at no additional cost.
- 2015-2017 Everything went perfectly! (ZERO Incidents)
Each year, we have access to up to 15 stages and book more than 40+ performances.
We do all of this without charging the artist for booking service... or adding fees to performance cost!
